Susan M. Brooks is a certified financial planner (CFP®) and an independent adviser and associate of Smith, Griesmeyer & Moses, LLC (SGM), an independently owned financial services firm specializing in financial, estate, and investment strategies*. SGM has offices in Vandalia and Beavercreek, Ohio.


Susan has been working in the financial planning industry since 1993. Today she specializes in retirement planning and investment management*. She serves her clients by:

  • Conducting comprehensive annual reviews, benchmarking results and new circumstances to a client’s financial plan  
  • Performing company and account research; developing quarterly reports; and recommending any needed changes
  • Addressing clients’ financial questions as they arise throughout the year
  • Preparing comprehensive financial plans for current clients and planning-only clients
  • Offering advice on estate planning, working closely with clients and their attorneys as they develop plans


Because she knows how to listen and ask questions, she believes, establishes close working relationships with her clients, always putting the client’s best interest first. She customizes plans and strategies to individual needs, monitoring them regularly and strives to ensure objectives are being met. She also gives clients product choices and points out the pros and cons of each.

Susan caters to her clients by meeting them in their homes at their convenience and following up immediately on questions and requests. She invites clients and their accountants to call her any time of the day or night, seven days a week. She makes her home in Dayton from May to November, and in Tucson, Ariz., from December to April.

Experience: Susan began her association with SGM in 1993 after a successful 26-year career in marketing, systems engineering, and management with IBM. She chose to work as an independent adviser with SGM clients so she can be completely objective with her recommendations; she has no product quotas to achieve or any proprietary products to sell.

 

Credentials: Susan received her CFP in 1994. She holds a master of business administration in finance and accounting from Xavier University in Cincinnati and a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and a former treasurer for the Dayton Chapter of the International Association of Financial Planners (IAFP). 

Susan is registered in six states: California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky,  and Ohio. She has Ohio insurance licenses in Life and Accident & Health, and holds these securities registrations:

  • Series 7 (General Securities)
  • Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law)
  • Series 65 (Uniform Investment Adviser Law)

I specialize in Retirement Planning and Investment Management.

 

 

 

I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, and a MBA in Finance and Accounting from Xavier Uniersity.  After a 26 year career in marketing and systems engineering with IBM, I began financial consulting in 1993 with Smith, Griesmeyer & Moses, and became a Certified Financial Planner.

 

 

 

I was a Treasurer for the Dayton Chapter of the International Association of Financial Planners (IAFP).  In addition, I am a member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners.

 

When I am not working with my clients, I love to play the panio, golf, and I enjoy traveling.
